Bloomin’ Food Scraps

Waste Warriors Ollie Cultrara (top) and Cheryl Brinkman (bottom) at our new Waste Sorting Stations.

We had a big presence at this years  Addison County Fair and Field Days collecting pre- and post-consumer food scraps and we wanted to share with you all how much food waste we were able to divert from the landfill. While our new “Waste Sorting Stations” did not capture a large amount of food scraps from fairgoers, we were able to collect almost 2,000 lbs of food scraps as well as 200 gallons of used cooking oil from vendors.

We would also like to thank the members of our community that stepped up to become Waste Warriors for the fair. They braved the heat and humidity to speak to fairgoers about correct disposal options and were strong advocates for compost and recycling.

We are hoping to continue to have Waste Warriors at various events around town. If you would like to become an advocate for composting and recycling in our community please contact Colin, at colin@ Or if you would like to have Waste Warriors at your next event visit our Waste Warrior request page
