There are two ways you can safely recycle your natural Christmas tree this holiday season. If you live in Vergennes or Middlebury, leave your tree on your curb and have it collected, or if you are a resident the Addison County Solid Waste Management District, bring it to the District Transfer Station and recycle it for free through the end of January. Regarding curbside collection in Middlebury and Vergennes, please leave your tree out the night before as volunteers from the Middlebury Rotary Club and Vergennes Lions Club will start collecting early the following day.
Vergennes curbside collection will happen on Saturday, January 2nd, so during your New Year’s Day fun, take a break and put your tree out the day before. Middlebury curbside collection will happen on Saturday, January 9th. All trees must be free of ornaments, wreaths, tinsel, lights and wire. We only want your trees, please!
Trees recycled through curbside pick-up or brought to the District Transfer Station will be chipped and turned into mulch at the District Transfer Station in Middlebury. Fragrant mulch will then be available, free of charge, for residents to pick up and use in their gardens or around their homes. Give your natural Christmas trees a new purpose and recycle them with our Merry Mulch Program.
