Clothes Hangers

Disposal Options

The options for reusing or recycling hangers vary depending on the type of material:

  • Plastic and wood hangers are accepted at certain thrift stores and dry cleaners (call stores to verify before dropping them off). Wooden hangers are usually made from several pieces of wood that have been glued together and have a clear coat of finish applied to the wood. This type of wood is not recyclable because the only wood that we recycle is ground up and used for mulch.
  • Wire hangers (including those coated with a rubbery layer) are recyclable as scrap metal at the District Transfer Station. Dry cleaners often accept wire hangers for reuse, as well.

Also consider giving away hangers via Front Porch Forum.
