Recycling in Addison County can be divided into two categories: blue-bin recycling and special recycling:
Blue-bin recycling refers to the paper, plastic, metal, and glass items that belong in a recycling bin. These are also known as “mandatory recyclables” because it is illegal to dispose of these materials in the landfill in Vermont. These items are collected at town drop-offs and via curbside collection and are sorted at the Materials Recovery Facility.
Special recycling refers to items that don’t belong in the recycling bin, but that can be recycled elsewhere. Many of these items are accepted at the District Transfer Station. Some of them are banned from the landfill. Click on the names of the items below to learn more about where to take them for special recycling.
