Egg Cartons

Disposal Options

Clean, intact paper (fiber) egg cartons are accepted at the Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op for reuse by local egg producers. If you buy your eggs directly from an egg producer, consider returning your carton to the producer. Reuse is a more efficient use of materials and energy than recycling or landfilling an item.

Some egg cartons are also recyclable:

  • Paper (fiber) egg cartons can be recycled with your blue bin recycling, as long as they are clean. If they are soiled, they can be composted at home or placed in the trash.
  • Plastic egg cartons should be recycled with your blue bin recycling, as long as they are clean. If they are soiled, rinse clean before recycling.

Styrofoam egg cartons are not recyclable and must be disposed of as trash.
