The Addison County Solid Waste Management District's proposed 2025 SWIP has been pre-approved by the Agency of Natural Resources. The SWIP addresses all aspects of sustainable materials management within the District’s 21 member towns. On November 30, 2024, the State of Vermont Agency of Natural Resources adopted its Materials Management Plan (MMP), which outlines specific deliverables designed to implement strategies for the management of waste and materials. The SWIP incorporates ACSWMD’s mission, and the objectives within the State’s MMP to address District policies, plans and activities over the next five-year period.
Goals as defined by the draft 2025 SWIP include educating the public on the reduction and diversion of recyclables, leaf & yard debris, food scraps, clean wood, hazardous waste, textiles, and construction & demolition debris, and more; working with towns, libraries, schools and businesses to improve their waste diversion programs; improving waste reduction at events and public spaces; demonstrating how recyclables, organics, hazardous waste, textiles, and construction & demolition debris are managed in the ACSWMD; showing how the ACSWMD will implement variable rate pricing for trash and recyclables; identifying criteria for siting solid waste facilities in member towns; establishing procedures for including solid waste facilities in the SWIP; listing the solid waste facilities and licensed commercial haulers that operate in the ACSWMD; and outlining future sustainable materials management initiatives.
