NEW: Mattress Recycling

Mattresses and box springs are NOW accepted at the District Transfer Station for RECYCLING if they are clean and dry.

The new rates to recycle or landfill Mattresses are:
(1) Crib Mattress – Recycling: $15/each;
(2) All Other Size Mattresses or Box spring – Recycling: $40/each;
(3) All Size Mattresses or Box spring – Landfill: $156/ton plus $45 Fee
(4) Mattress Quantities Greater than 10: By Appointment Only at $40/each

Certain conditions render a mattress ineligible for recycling at the District Transfer Station. These mattresses will be charged at the current disposal rate plus a $45 landfill fee.

Mattresses with conditions that are unacceptable:

  • Excessive moisture or being soaked in leachate
  • Mold
  • Bodily fluids
  • Insects, living organisms, and bed bugs
  • Oil or hazardous substances
  • Severely twisted, punctured, or crushed
  • Frozen

Items NOT accepted for recycling as a mattress:

  • Sleeping bags
  • Pillows
  • Car beds
  • Strollers
  • Playpens
  • Infant Carriers
  • Waterbeds
  • Air mattresses
  • Mattresses from futons
