Several recent studies and reports are now available that illustrate the state of solid waste and recycling in Vermont:
- Status Report to the Legislature: Vermont’s Universal Recycling Law (January 2019) – summary-level update on the background, status, and effectiveness of Act 148, Vermont’s Universal Recycling law.
- 2019 Biennial Report on Solid Waste – includes updates on the status of Universal Recycling (Act 148), Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Bottle Bill, Household Hazardous Waste, and other solid waste topics and programs. Includes details on the volume, amount and toxicity of Vermont’s solid waste stream.
- 2018 Vermont Waste Characterization Study – a study on the amounts of different kinds of materials in Vermont’s trash
- Backyard Composting Survey – a survey of Vermont households to estimate the
volume of household food scrap waste currently being composted at homes or fed to livestock, as well as to understand attitudes about composting among Vermonters.
